José Tomás (Pepe) Pujol Carabantes (1977, San José de Costa Rica / Spain)

Pepe holds higher education degrees in Fine Arts from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Torino, the Weißensee Kunsthochschule in Berlin, and the EFTI School of Photography in Madrid, where he also obtained a postgraduate degree in Photography. His work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Sitges, Sant Pere de Ribes, and Santiago de Chile. He has also published his photographic work in several specialized fashion and sports magazines.

His practice alternates between photography and graphic art, evolving over time to take on a more conceptual and psychological character. At the same time, he has diversified the techniques through which he shapes his thematic development.

The works exhibited at Artevistas Gallery primarily focus on urban landscapes, though they also include portraits and botanical subjects. In all of these, the artist innovatively employs color and form fragmentation techniques, using adhesive tapes in various colors applied to panels of compressed wood. Terms such as pixelation, abstraction in the details, and deconstructivism are often used to describe the unique style of Pepe Pujol. The result is a body of work in which iconographic and pictorial elements come together to create a coherent and visually striking whole.
